Virtual Vaudeville Title

Victorian Ornament

We derived the ornamental detail over the boxes from high-resolution photographs of the restored Southern Theatre in Columbus Ohio (1896), and buildings by the nineteenth-century American architect Louis Sullivan. We altered the colors of the photographs to fit the scheme described in a newspaper description of the Union Square Theatre as renovated in 1893: “In the auditorium, the entire proscenium arch and frame is richly finished in cream and gold" (New York Herald, 18 Sept., 1893).
