The 1888 etching of the Union Square Theatre shows a small round portrait over the boxes.

This painting would almost certainly have been replaced in the 1893 renovation. We have used paintings, similar is size and shape to those depicted in the UST etching, from the restored Southern Theatre in Columbus, Ohio.
