Box Crown

The crown over the boxes depicted in the 1888 etching of the Union Square Theatre is highly idiosyncratic. Lacking evidence about whether this design was altered in the 1893 renovation, we have retained it in our model. We interpreted the inverted cone as being a tent constructed of fabric, and used the same material that we used for the swag curtains. It is entirely possible, however, that this form was constructed out of another material. For further information, see box.
