Work on Virtual Vaudeville began in December 2001 with a three-year, $900,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, as part of the the DLII (Digital Libraries) initiative within the ITR (Information Technology Research) program. This grant was supplemented with an additional $110,000 Matching Equipment Grant from the University of Georgia Research Foundation.
